Why Chibok girls have not been found yet – Defence Minister, Ali
The Minister of Defence, Mansur Ali, has said that it may take years to rescue all the Chibok girls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents.
Recall that over 200 school girls were kidnapped by the Islamic group from Chibok, Borno State 3 years ago.
Following their abduction, the Federal Government has so far secured the release of 21 of the girls while some others were rescued during Military mop-up operations. in the North-East.
But speaking with the Voice of America, VOA, on Tuesday, Ali said the military is committed to finding the girls and is searching Boko Haram hideouts in the Sambisa forest.
The Minister compared the inability of the military to find the girls despite retaking most of the territory under the insurgents group to the efforts of the United States, US, to find Osama bin Laden after the invasion of Afghanistan.
According to Ali, “It took the U.S. up to seven, eight, up to 10 years before they could get to Bin Laden.
“We are continuing our campaign in the Sambisa Forest in all its nooks and corners.”
Mr. Ali spoke to VOA as activists marked the third anniversary of the girls’ abductions, and demanding more from the federal government to free the girls.
