A suspended Supreme Court judge, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta was on Thursday arraigned at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Abuja, on an amended 8-count charge of false assets declaration.
Ngwuta, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges instituted by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), counsel to the defendant, made an oral application seeking the bail of his client on self-recognisance.
Mr Umar Muhammed, Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, did not oppose the application, as according to him, bail granting was at the discretion of the court.
The tribunal headed by its Chairman, Danladi Umar, granted the bail application and fixed July 12 for the commencement of trial.
The Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN), had averred that Ngwuta contravened Section 15 of Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria. According to Malami, false declaration of assets was punishable under Section 23 (2) of the Act.
NAN reports that Ngwuta is one of the federal judges from whose residences, the Department of State Service (DSS) claimed it uncovered huge sums of money in various denominations. The DSS raided the judges’ residences in October 2016.
Ngwuta is currently standing trial on that account before Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on an amended 16-count charge bordering on money laundering.
The Federal Government that preferred that charges, said Ngwuta contravened Section 15 (2) (d) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2012 (as amended). It added that the offences are punishable under Section 15 (3) of the Act.

There was a mild drama at the Presidential Villa, Abuja yesterday following the announcement by President Muhammadu Buhari suspending the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), David Babachir Lawal and the Director General (DG) of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Ayo Oke.
A statement by the presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, said both officials remained suspended until they were fully investigated. Lawal is being probed over allegations of an award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE). Oke, on the other hand, is facing scrutiny for his agency’s role in the $43 million and other local currencies found in an Ikoyi, Lagos apartment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
By the suspension of these officials, the government seems to have affirmed its commitment to its anti-corruption agenda. But how the matter is finally resolved will determine the strength of the resolve of the government to beam the anti-corruption searchlight on its officials.
Shortly after the announcement, State House correspondents sighted the axed officials being driven into the Villa. However, it could not be established whether Lawal had prior knowledge of the presidential directive as at the time of his suspension, but he was seen by newsmen after a closed-door meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
When reporters sought his reaction after the meeting, the suspended SGF queried the source of the report. The following conversation ensued:
Newsmen: Your suspension has just been announced. How will you react to the development?
Babachir: Who announced it?
Newsmen: The Presidency
Babachir: Then ask them. Why are you asking me? Who is the Presidency?
Newsmen: Have you been informed of the suspension?
Babachir: By who? About what. What about you? Have you been informed?
Newsmen: Yes sir.
Babachir: By who?
Newsmen: By the Presidency sir.
Babachir: I have not seen it. I should have been given... I have not seen the press release so I cannot comment on it.
Newsmen: It is currently trending online. Are you doubting the authenticity of the statement?
Babachir: I have not seen it.
Newsmen: Tell us the outcome of your meeting with the Vice President sir.
Babachir: I am always here. I always meet the Vice President. I used to come here even before I was made SGF.
Newsmen: Your suspension has just been announced. How will you react to the development?

Babachir: I have not seen it.
Newsmen: Tell us the outcome of your meeting with the Vice President sir.
Babachir: I am always here. I always meet the Vice President. I used to come here even before I was made SGF.
Apparently looking bemused, he thereafter walked away and was chauffeur-driven out of the Presidential Villa. In the same vein, Oke, who arrived at the seat of power shortly after Babachir left to seek audience with the Vice President, could not gain access as he was barred by the security agents at the entrance to the Vice President’s wing of the Presidential Villa.
Oke, who later made another attempt at the security gate accessing the forecourt linking the entrance to President Buhari’s office, was again denied access, as the remote controlled gate remained firmly shut.
Hitherto, the NIA boss enjoyed the privilege of gaining access to the President through the gate along with the service chiefs, National Security Adviser (NSA), Inspector General of Police (IGP), DG State Security Service (SSS), Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Head of Civil Service of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister. The suspended NIA boss was forced after being denied access to drive out of the presidential villa looking dejected. He was, however, sighted about 45 minutes later being led to Prof. Osinbajo’s office by the Vice President’s Chief Security Officer.
Consequently, a three-man committee, headed by the Vice President with the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice as well as the National Security Adviser as members, has been raised to investigate the allegations. It has two weeks to submit its report.
By the new development, the most senior permanent secretary and officer in the SGF and NIA offices are to act as heads while the investigation lasts. Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has backed the President over the decision.
Its spokesman, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi in an interview with The Guardian, said there was nothing abnormal with the measure. His words: “The action by the president is part of the normal procedural thing to do. If someone is being investigated, it is normal that that individual is required to step aside to allow the investigation to be concluded. It also demonstrates the resolve by the president to entrench transparency and accountability. This is my interpretation of what happened.”
Besides, the National Assembly and famous constitutional lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome, lauded the exercise. The Senate communicated its satisfaction in a statement yesterday by the chairman of its ad hoc committee on the humanitarian crisis in the North East, Shehu Sani.
“It is commendable that the president has taken the Senate committee report and recommendations seriously. The sword of truth is not just cast and sharpened for the neck of foes but also for those of friends,” he added.
In their commendation messages, Representatives Aliyu Magaji Dau (APC Jigawa) and Johnson Agnayinman (APC Edo) noted that the action sent a signal that nobody was above the law.
They, however, called for restraint so that fair hearing for the affected officials would not be compromised. Describing the axing as “good riddance to bad rubbish”, Ozekhome held that the measure was indicative that President Buhari was beginning to listen to the voice of reason on the need to entrench good governance in the polity.
“The suspension of the N250 million grass-cutting SGF and the N15 billion Osborne Road warehousing NIA DG, NIA is good riddance to bad rubbish. I am sure the government is beginning to listen to my critical but patriotic voice. We cannot continue to be a laughing stock in the international arena,” he stated.
But Governor Ayodele Fayose considered the exercise as an afterthought. In a statement by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor queried: “Would the president have set up a probe panel if these scams were linked to anyone in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or those members of his party that are not in his good books?”
He added: “Most importantly, what business does a presidential committee have with an investigation into crime? Are they telling Nigerians that they have lost confidence in all the intelligence and investigative agencies of the government, including the EFCC and DSS?”

Suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo today shortly after his suspension was announced. Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has met with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Babachir Lawal, barely an hour after the announcement Lawal’s suspension from office.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the closed-door meeting is connected with the work of the Presidential Committee set up to investigate allegations of misconduct against the SGF.
When accosted, the SGF refused to comment on the outcome of his meeting with the Vice-President.
The Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Amb. Ayo Oke, who was also suspended, was seen around the Vice President’s office immediately after the departure of the SGF.
The NIA boss, who noticed the presence of State House correspondents, however turned back and attempted to pass through Vice President’s exit gate.
He was prevented from going out through that point by security officials; the security also stopped the DG from passing through the service chief’s gate.
The NIA boss later left the Presidential Villa without seeing the Vice-President.
President Buhari on Wednesday ordered the immediate suspension of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr David Lawal and the Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Amb. Ayo Oke, pending the outcome of investigation of allegations levelled against them.
Media and Publicity Special Adviser, Mr Femi Adesina, said the president ordered an investigation into the allegations of violations of law and due process made against the SGF, Mr David Lawal, in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).
The President also ordered a full-scale investigation into the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, over which the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has made a claim.
“The investigation is also to enquire into the circumstances in which the NIA came into possession of the funds, how and by whose or which authority the funds were made available to the NIA, and to establish whether or not there has been a breach of the law or security procedure in obtaining custody and use of the funds.
“The President has also directed the suspension of the Director General of the NIA, Ambassador Ayo Oke, pending the outcome of the investigation,’’ the statement added.

How SGF, Babachir Lawal was suspended inside Osinbajo’s office
Fresh facts have emerged regarding the suspension of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal.
Lawal was meeting with the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, in his office, when the Presidency suspended him.
There are speculations that the embattled SGF, was being advised about the decision and told not to take it personal with President Muhammadu Buhari.
It is understood that Lawal was reportedly suspended, because Buhari is perceived to be losing his fight against corruption, with some of his key appointees facing allegations from several quarters.
Osinbajo also told him pointedly that the outcome of the investigation will determine his fate.
Recall that statement signed by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina and made available to DAILY POST had announced the suspension of the SGF.
The statement reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an investigation into the allegations of violations of law and due process made against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr David Babachir Lawal, in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).
“The President has also directed the suspension of the SGF from office pending the outcome of the investigations.
“In a related development, the President has ordered a full scale investigation into the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, over which the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has made a claim.
“The investigation is also to enquire into the circumstances in which the NIA came into possession of the funds, how and by whose or which authority the funds were made available to the NIA, and to establish whether or not there has been a breach of the law or security procedure in obtaining custody and use of the funds.
“The President has also directed the suspension of the Director General of the NIA, Ambassador Ayo Oke, pending the outcome of the investigation.
“A three-man Committee comprising the Hon. Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and the National Security Adviser, headed by the Vice President, is to conduct both investigations.
“The Committee is to submit its report to the President within 14 days.
“The most senior Permanent Secretary in the SGF’s office, and the most senior officer in the NIA, are to act, respectively, during the period of investigation.”
Last month, Lawal insisted he was innocent of the allegations leveled against him over the N1.3billion grass-cutting contract.

PDP ‘moles’ have taken over your government – APC group charges Buhari
The All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State have cried out to President Muhammadu Buhari to be wary of persons within his government, hinting that members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP acting as “moles” have taken over his government.
The claim was made by APC Unity Group made up of the Deputy Chairman of the party, Chief Cyril Ogodo; former member representing Ethiope in the House of Representatives, Olorogun Solomon Edojah; and other chieftains of the party in the State.
They frowned at the appointment of a serving Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Prof. Saliba Mukoro as Chairman, French Language School, a parastatal under the Ministry of Education as well as the appointment of Alex Okoh as Director General, Bureau for Public Enterprise.
In an open letter to President Buhari, signed by Olorogun Edojah and Barr C. Ashibougwu as chairman and secretary respectively, the group alleged that some powerful figures in the presidency have been playing the role of “moles” on behalf of the PDP.
They maintained that out of the 50-man list sent to the President for appointment from the State, only one appointment has been made from the list.
According to them, “These persons have taken it upon themselves to ridicule and batter the image of the founding fathers of the APC in Delta State, giving the impression that the party is not on ground and thus making every effort to replace the names of APC members submitted for appointment with members of the PDP.
“In the face of massive intimidation from members of the PDP in the 2015 general elections, it came to us as a surprise that all the federal appointments from the APC led government under your watch has been given to known members of the PDP in the State.
“The most recent, shocking and embarrassing case is that of a serving Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Prof. Saliba Mukoro who has just been appointed by you as Chairman, French Language School, a parastatal under the Ministry of Education.
“We humbly appeal that all the recent appointments from Delta State which were obviously made without due consultation and clearance from the APC hierarchy be cancelled while the national chairman of the party, Chief Odigie Oyegun meets with you with a clean copy of the 50-man list submitted to you for appointments by the national vice chairman of the party, South-South zone, Ntufam Hilliard Etta.”
Questioning the anti-corruption war of President Buhari, the group said, “What face of the party are we showing to the world? What manner of corruption are we fighting? Or does the war against corruption not extended to Delta State? Your Excellency, we are still in coma over these glaring attempts to ridicule the party in the State.”

Southern Kaduna killings: We hold El-Rufai responsible – Catholic Church
The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan in Jema’a local government area of Kaduna State, has blamed the killings in Southern Kaduna on Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
They accused him of taking sides with the suspected killer Fulani herdsmen.
Bishop of Kafanchan Diocese, Most Revd. Dr. Joseph Danlami Bagobiri, said, “Governor El-Rufai has in most cases seemed to have abdicated his responsibility of being Governor to them all, and instead gave in to the luxury of waging an unrelenting media campaign against Southern Kaduna people.”
Bagobiri who is also the Chairman, Southern Kaduna Christian Elders Association, stated categorically that, “He (El-Rufai), unabashedly takes sides with the armed herdsmen (His kinsmen) thereby failing in his responsibility as a true statesman, becoming therefore a biased umpire who blames and criminalizes Southern Kaduna victims as the cause of the mayhem.”
The Catholic Bishop in a terse statement he issued on Tuesday, said, “The sole aim of these attacks is to conquer our people and occupy their lush lands and turning same into grazing fields for the marauding nomads. The Governor of Kaduna State is pursuing this detestable policy by his plan to forcefully take over lands in Southern Kaduna and turn same to Grazing Reserves and Routes for his kinsmen.
“To show Government’s insensitivity on this volatile matter, there are ongoing expansionist plans to annex more land to the already existing grazing reserves at Ladduga in Ikulu Chiefdom of Zangon Kataf Local Government area and transmute that locality from being a district into an emirate.”
According to Bishop Bagobiri, “On 15th April 2017, at about 7:00 pm, an attack was launched by Fulani militias in Asso village, Jema’a local government area of Kaduna state. The attack came when the people were in the church for Easter vigil celebration. The killers took advantage of the event by sporadically shooting at the faithful killing at least 12 persons on the spot with many injured.
“Having presided over the mass burial of atleast 10 Catholics along with their parish priest Revd Fr. Alexander Yayock the following day, I’m by conscience compelled to make the following statements:
“The attitude of the state government has been marred by lots of complicity and bias which exacerbated rather than ameliorated tensions. The Governor has made several efforts in the media to discredit figure of casualties that were arrived at through painstaking research, and is known for trying to change the true narrative by presenting the victims as the villain and the aggressors as the prey.
“The Governor has the penchance of using state apparatus to insult, denigrate, intimidate, arrest and put in prison all voices of reason from Southern Kaduna who dare to challenge his handling of this crisis. Among those that have fallen victims of his tyranny are: traditional rulers, journalists, youths, political leaders, academicians, while threatening our lawyers and other leaders (Religious and Unions) with arrest for daring to speak out against the genocide.
“The primary responsibility of government as enshrined in the constitution is the protection of life and property of citizens irrespective of ethnic and/or religious persuasion. Any breach of this fundamental principle of social contract contravenes the very reason for which Government exist for.
“Unfortunately, our government both at the Federal and State levels have failed woefully in this regard because of their inability to rise above ethnic and religious bias. If anything, government has shown outright partisanship in favor of the herdsmen to the disappointment of the majority Southern Kaduna indigenes.
“Because of government’s inability to serve as an un-biased umpire in the face of these crises, we are sometimes tempted to belief that there is a well-planned Jihad against the people of Southern Kaduna, and Christians generally in Northern Nigeria as this is amply demonstrated by the incessant attacks and atrocities committed against the aborigines of the Middle Belt region in Northern Nigeria.
“The killings continue unabatedly in fields and bushes, thereby preventing farmers from visiting and cultivating their lands. This is happening today as the Military and other security forces mount road blocks in towns and major roads while bushes remain un-safe for farming.
“In the Godogodo and Pasakori attacks in Jemaá Local government area for example, the military merely watched and supervised the killings and burning of homes on the pretext that their mandate did not include fighting the herdsmen.
“When the youth mobilized themselves to repel the attackers, the soldiers deliberately blocked them from entering the town. The herdsmen and their collaborators turned the towns into killing fields and killed mostly women, children and the elderly who couldn’t run for cover.
“The level of barbarity was such that pregnant women got their wombs blown out and massacred before their children. And these innocent children were not spared either. This level of viciousness was never witnessed even in the brutal tyranny and regime of Adolf Hitler.
“What is most intriguing is the level of sophistication of weapons; Ak 47, Machine Guns and many other deadly instruments of death are being freely used by the herdsmen, leaving wondering how these weapons got to their hands.
“The governor has described the Fulanis as vindictive and un-forgiven people. This may simply be the projection of the Governor’s own mindset to an entire people. Our experience living with Fulanis for decades does not prove this. The indigenous communities of Southern Kaduna have been living peacefully with the Fulani herdsmen who came to join them as neighbors until the architects of the view that the average Fulani man is vindictive and un-forgiving came into power.
“The mayhem and killing with impunity in Southern Kaduna and the Middle Belt region and beyond by the Fulani herdsmen, using sophisticated weapons is a recent development fueled by this kind of philosophy. To present any person or group of persons as revengeful and to go ahead to support and sponsor a praxis of retaliation as we are witnessing in Kaduna State today, is not only a detestable behavior but an evil mentality that will not engender social cohesion and harmonious coexistence in a plural and heterogeneous setting such as ours.
“The natives and herdsmen of Southern Kaduna have always had their differences as is common in herdsmen and farmers relationship everywhere in the world. These differences sometime end up in clashes and skirmishes resulting from invasion of each other spaces, but such differences have assumed an un-precedent height under the current government with the use of very sophisticated weapons of destruction.
“What we are witnessing in Kaduna state is not the so called un-forgiving spirit of the Fulani people towards others, but the transfer of a hate mentality from a handful of people in leadership within the State to an entire ethnic group, with disastrous consequences. All humans are created by God with rationality and the milk of human kindness in their hearts. This often shows itself in love expressed in mercy, compassion and forgiveness. No rational human person is created without the disposition to overlook some offences committed against him or her. Only those with dead consciences are indisposed to show compassion and forgiveness. A world that does not forgive is doom to fail. An eye for an eye philosophy renders the whole world blind it is said. Describing an entire people as un-forgiven is not a plus but a minus for such people.
“If the Fulanis stop the aggression in Southern Kaduna today, there will be peace in the environment and the entire State. The non-retaliation of Christians to great abuses and violations of their human rights is termed as weakness, which is not correct. God has put the feeling of mercy and compassion in each of us regardless of our ethnicity and religious affiliations.
“If the Southern Kaduna had been trouble shooting people, they too would have established militia groups and go on rampage in domains other than their own. But alas this is not what is happening. They are being attacked in their sleep and places of worship right in the land that divine providence has given as their own. And even at that, they are told not to defend themselves in the face of aggression.
“The earlier we rediscover this truth of conscience (that all rational beings are imbued with a spirit of mercy and compassion) and begin to live this truth to the full, the better for our Society. Therefore the promotion of the philosophy that any offence committed is like a debt that must be avenged for either now or in the future is not only false and un-wholesome but it is the figment and projection of the personal idiosyncrasies of a few but powerful people. This mindset if not checked and corrected has the potential to erode the fabric of any social organization.
“The killings with impunity in Southern Kaduna must not be allowed to continue. And Government in the State has a special and irreplaceable role in bringing this scourge to an end. The current Government in the State must follow the example of past Governments by initiating measures that would unify rather than divide the people of the State on ethnic and religious lines as this Government has been doing since its inception.
“We have had our challenges on harmonious coexistence in the past. But past Governments demonstrated statesmanship in Governance by bringing stake holders across board to parley on how to resolve our indifference. The current administration in the State seems to dread this kind of interface which had proven to be effective in the past.
“Government must change its attitude from alignment with people of one ethno-religious group in the State, she must resist the temptation of acting as the mouthpiece of one group against others and begin to display true statesmanship in seeing and treating the entire state as its constituency.
“The current Government got it all wrong right from the beginning when it openly stated that she will treat the citizens of the State not on the merits of their being Kaduna state indigenes but on the basis of who voted and who did not vote for the party that won the election. This is a wrong premise to operate under a democracy such as ours, which promotes and respects diversity particularly on political matters. We cannot all become members of one Party in Kaduna state. It is unfortunate that this kind of segregational mindset seems to be teleguiding government’s policies, utterances, appointments, and the distribution of infrastructure for development and social initiatives.
“This Government has taken discrimination on religious and ethnic lines to a height that has never been witnessed in the history of Kaduna. Today we are left with a situation where there is much concentration of development in the North and Central Senatorial districts to the utter neglect of the Southern Senatorial District which is predominantly Christian. The Northern part of the State monopolizes the Executive, the legislative, the Judiciary and occupies all slots of federal appointments such as the ministerial and those of parastatals.
“This disgusting mentality of premeditated discrimination and marginalization is shown by the lopsidedness in both political appointments, locations of infrastructural facilities, and worst still the delineations of political constituencies and polling units which institutionalizes rigging at source. While the Hausa/Fulani dominated areas in Kaduna State have cornered over 48 Federal Institutions to their domain, southern Kaduna can hardly boast of one of such institutions in her domain. Instead of the current government to work towards redressing this disturbing, inhuman and unjust imbalance, she is rather shamelessly contemplating the removal of the Kaduna State University (KASU) Campus and the College of Education (COE) from Southern Kaduna to his Fulani dominated space. What a shame and a slap to justice, fairness and objectivity in dealing with people.
“In all these we have watched with pains and patience for about two years now how government in the State is being managed as a personal estate in a way that excludes many stake holders from the State. We want to state emphatically that Kaduna State is for all of us, regardless of political, ethnic and religious affiliations.
“The Governor should stop running it as his personal establishment. Kaduna State is the only State that we can call our own. And because Kaduna State is our State, we are contributing significantly for its progress not only on the Spiritual level, but also our works in the areas of education, medi-care, social upliftment and building of capacities of the people cannot be ignored. Government must recognize us as equal stake holders in the management and running of the affairs of the State. We do not accept being treated as aliens in our State.
“Despite these imbalances in our nation and in our State, here we are again celebrating another feast of the resurrection of Christ. The fact of our Lord’s resurrection revolutionized the lives of the Disciples of Christ. It transformed them from being a timid and sometimes a seemingly clueless group of disciple, to a fearless and courageous team that turned Jerusalem at some point upside down. Our faith therefore in the risen Christ must so influenced and transformed our lives as it did to the lives of the Disciples of Christ particularly at the times of persecution such as we are facing.
“The injustices in our Society notwithstanding, we exhort believers not to be fainthearted but courageous in facing the challenges of our time. We are to renew our faith and commitment to the living and resurrected Jesus, who triumphed over death and evil as the way to surmounting all the abuses and discrimination that we suffer in Nigeria today”, the Catholic Bishop said.

Seized $43million: Tell Nigerians who the money belongs to – Saraki dares EFCC
Senate President Bukola Saraki has said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is poorly managing the controversy surrounding the $43million recovered from an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Saraki, speaking on Arise News Network, stated that the anti-graft agency had a duty to inform Nigerians who the money belonged to.
The Senate President said the whole confusion surrounding the recovered money, was not good for Nigeria’s image and warned that the National Assembly might need to step in.
“I believe this is something simple that the organisation (EFCC) should manage, even before the speculation started coming out. The circus has to come to end as to whether it belongs to individuals, companies, agencies or a state government.
“We, however, believe they will sort it out and eventually tell Nigerians who owns the money. Nigerians deserve to know. The circus must stop,” he said.
When asked if the EFCC made an error by not monitoring the Osborne Towers, Saraki said: “I would rather not comment and prejudge them because they might come before us.
“But clearly, Nigerians must know, to save us this embarrassment. I believe they should come out and tell us who owns the money. I believe an agency like this should monitor and clear this mess.”
Buhari’s men have buried their loot in Aso Rock – Fayose
Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has alleged that some people close to President Muhammadu Buhari have buried their loot in the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Fayose stated this in response to Lai Mohammed’s statement, where he claimed that looters now bury stolen funds in cemetaries and deep forests.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, Fayose slammed Mohammed for playing on the intelligence of Nigerians.
“Looters in the Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency, especially those being compensated for funding the election of the president in 2015 bury their own loot in the villa with presidential protection.
“Should it be wrong for other supposed looters that do not have presidential protection like the All Progressives Congress (APC) looters to bury their loots in burial grounds probably for spiritual protection?
“Nigerians can no longer be fooled with stage-managed loots recoveries, with no traceable owners (looters), especially when the loots are traceable to close associates of the president and his cabinet members.
“Obviously, this so-called anti-corruption war has become a laughing stock with N49 million found in Kaduna Airport, N448 million discovered in a shop at Victoria Island, Lagos and N13 billion found in Ikoyi, Lagos neither having owners nor the identities of owners of the property where the money was found known,” the statement read in part.
Fayose also claimed the recovered monies either belonged to those around Buhari or that the government planted them “to sustain its fake anti-corruption fight”.
“It is either the money belongs to members of Buhari’s government or it is being planted by the government to sustain its fake anti-corruption fight in the minds of the people.
“Enough of stage-managed and fake anti-corruption war aimed solely at opposition figures, especially presidential hopefuls in the 2019 election”, he said.
Why Chibok girls have not been found yet – Defence Minister, Ali
The Minister of Defence, Mansur Ali, has said that it may take years to rescue all the Chibok girls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents.
Recall that over 200 school girls were kidnapped by the Islamic group from Chibok, Borno State 3 years ago.
Following their abduction, the Federal Government has so far secured the release of 21 of the girls while some others were rescued during Military mop-up operations. in the North-East.
But speaking with the Voice of America, VOA, on Tuesday, Ali said the military is committed to finding the girls and is searching Boko Haram hideouts in the Sambisa forest.
The Minister compared the inability of the military to find the girls despite retaking most of the territory under the insurgents group to the efforts of the United States, US, to find Osama bin Laden after the invasion of Afghanistan.
According to Ali, “It took the U.S. up to seven, eight, up to 10 years before they could get to Bin Laden.
“We are continuing our campaign in the Sambisa Forest in all its nooks and corners.”
Mr. Ali spoke to VOA as activists marked the third anniversary of the girls’ abductions, and demanding more from the federal government to free the girls.

Seized $43million: Amaechi demands N1.25billion compensation from Fani-Kayode, Fayose’s spokesman
Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi has filed a N500million suit against former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode and Governor Ayodele Fayose’s media aide, Lere Olayinka.
The two men accused Amaechi of being the owner of the $43million, which operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), discovered in a Lagos apartment last week.
In separate letters to Fani-Kayode and Olayinka, the counsel to Amaechi, Lateef Fagbemi, insisted that the allegations levelled against his client were false.
Fagbemi said his client had never owned a home in Lagos and that the “misleading information” was capable of tarnishing Amaechi’s reputation.
“The story as uploaded by you is to our knowledge, blatantly false, malicious and is aimed at impeaching the credit of our client, a two-time speaker of the Rivers state of house of assembly, a two-time governor of Rivers state and current minister of the federation.
“Our client neither owns the house where the cash was found and your story and claim are unfounded,” the letter read.
Fagbemi also said the publication constitutes a libel and is defamatory “aimed at impinging our client’s character and credit in the eyes of Nigerians and foreigners.”
Apart from the demand for an apology from the duo to be published in five national dailies and their Twitter handles, Amaechi specifically asked for the sum of N500million from Fani-Kayode “as compensation for the malicious and defamatory claim”.
He threatened that the amount might increase, if Fani-Kayode fails to address the situation as expected.
Olayinka was asked to also apologize in five national dailies and pay the sum of N750 million “as compensation for the malicious and defamatory claim”,n on his Twitter handle.

Seized $43million: EFCC invites former Governor, others for questioning
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited a former Governor and some others for questioning over the $43million discovered in one of the apartments in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.
According to The Nation, the anti-graft agency has identified how apartment 7B where the money was found, was acquired.
The EFCC has also begun investigation into the roles played by some apartment owners and tenants as it concerned movement of the cash into the Towers.
A source said: “The more we investigate this $43.4m haul, the more we get fresh facts. It has become imperative to interact with some owners or tenants of apartments in the Towers.
“We have invited a former governor and other high-profile owners and tenants for interaction. It is just to ask a few questions on whether or not they were aware of such movement of cash.
“We have clues linking some occupants of the Towers to the cash haul. And in line with sections 16 and 17 of the EFCC (Establishment Act) 2004, we are inviting these landlords or tenants.
“Unless we get to the root of this case, Nigerians may not know the truth or otherwise about the cash.
“We are not saying that those invited are guilty of any infraction or having link with the $43.4million but we need to hear from them – in line with the ongoing profiling of those in the Towers.”

Dino Melaye escapes assassination attempt
Senator Dino Melaye in the early hours of today escaped an assassination attempt on his life at his home in Ayetoro-Gbede in Kogi state.
According to reports, about 10 gunmen stormed Dino's home at about 12 midnight and started shooting sporadically at the building.
Although Dino wasn't hurt, two of his cars were riddled with bullets.
He made a distress call to the state Commissioner of police, Wilson Inalegwu, who ordered policemen to the scene. However before the police got to his home, the gunmen had escaped.
The commissioner of police has ordered an investigation into the attack.
Speaking on the attack, Dino said he believes the assassination attempt was politically motivated.
“At about midnight, we started hearing gunshots. They fired more than 200 rounds of bullets into the house. This attempt to kill me will not stop me from speaking the truth.
If I speak the truth, I will die. If I lie, I will die. I’ve decided to speak the truth and die. I’m not afraid of death.
I only respect men, I don’t fear them. I am championing an administrative cause. I will continue to speak and be the voice to the voiceless. I’m not deterred.
I remain resolute to make Kogi better. Noting will stop me from coming home.
The DPO did not come to my house until three hours later. Even the area Commander in Kabba was not notified until I called the Commissioner of police.
I suspect a Satanic collaboration between Taufiq Isa and the police in Aiyetoro because the duo held a meeting two days ago.
Only God will protect us in this country but definitely not the police” he said

$43m Found In Ikoyi By EFCC Belongs To Rivers – Gov Wike
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has introduced a new twist to the $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23, 218,000 recovered on Wednesday by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from Osborne Towers, a luxury residential complex in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The governor told journalists at a briefing in Port Harcourt last night that the money belonged to the Rivers State Government.
Wike issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to return the money to his government or he would be forced to take legal measures to recover it.
Governor Wike declared that the money (N13 billion) found in the Ikoyi apartment belonged to the Rivers state government.
Governor Wike said that investigations by the Rivers State Government revealed that the money was proceeds from the sale of gas turbines by the immediate past Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
Addressing Government House press corps, at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday night, Governor Wike said: “The money in question belongs to the former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. We want to confirm that the house in Ikoyi also belongs to Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.
“If you recollect in 2015, we said that gas turbines built by Former Governor Peter Odili were sold to Sahara Energy, business partners of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi at $319 million.
”That money was used to sponsor the All Progressives Congress for the 2015 general elections. From the date of sale of the gas turbines to May 29, 2015, the money depleted from $319 million to $204,000. What was stashed at the Ikoyi residence was part of that fund”.
He said: “We have facts to prove that the said money belongs to the Rivers State Government. The Federal Government must return our money”.
Governor Wike said all the stories being peddled about the money belonging to the National Intelligence Agency are false and mere face saving measures by the embattled APC Federal Government.
He said: “As I speak to you, the Federal Government is so embarrassed that this has happened. All the stories that the money belongs to the NIA are fake”.
Governor Wike challenged the Federal Government to set up a panel of Inquiry, which will sit publicly to investigate the money, if it doubted the claim of the Rivers State Government.
He stated that the Rivers State Government needed the money to complete an array of projects, insisting that on no account would this criminal activity be swept under the carpet.
The governor said as long as the Federal Government continues to disturb the progress of Rivers State, so long will God throw the Federal Government into confusion.
“We are giving them seven days to return our money. Otherwise, we would take legal action to recover our money. $43million will help us complete several projects. We need that money for projects”, he said.
Former Governor Amaechi had flatly denied ownership of the said money saying that he does not own any apartment in Lagos, except Abuja.
In a statement issued by his media aide, David Iyofor, Amaechi said linking him to the money is spurious part of the campaign of hate against him for helping to bring down the 16 years of PDP administration in Nigeria.

Amaechi must vomit more loot to lessen his pot belly – Fani-Kayode’s aide fires back
Jude Ndukwe, Special Adviser on Media to former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has attacked the camp of Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the controversy over $43m found in a Lagos apartment continues.
Ndukwe in a statement dared Amaechi to speak on the issue, adding that he must cough out more loot to free his pot belly.
“We read with amusement the insulting words of one of Rotimi Ameachi’s aides about Chief Femi Fani-Kayode,” it reads.
“A man who had to appoint his own psychiatrist as his Commissioner of Health when he was govermor because he kept breaking down during cabinet meetings?“In the first place one must ask, is Rotimi Amaechi a human being? Everyone knows he is an animal.
“A man that shits in his pants every time that he hears FFK’s name? Do you expect the great FFK to respond to a creature like Rotimi who he once described as ‘a pot-bellied creek Haramite who comes from the gutter’.
“We will not respond to the little errand boy that says he is Amaechi’s spokesman. The rat is too small.“A dirty stinking swamp rat like Rotimi Amaechi has the nerve to send his boy to insult FFK?
“We have bigger and better things to do. We are waiting for Amaechi himself to open his stinking mouth. Let us hear from him and not from his errand boy.
“The man is a cultist and a killer. He is also a serial traitor who spends more time smoking indian hemp and drinking kai kai than on servicing his wife.
“The Odilis made them human beings after they washed their toilets and sucked their arses for many years yet in the end both Rotimi and his wife betrayed them.“He was a houseboy to Gov. Peter Odili and his very ugly wife was also a housegirl to Odili’s wife.
“Rotimi is nothing but a greedy peasant, gutter snipe and shit heel. His stomach is so fat that he farts in his dreams and when he does so he puts the lights out.
“He needs to free his belly; he must cough up all the money that he stole from Rivers state when he was governor rather than trying to fool anyone.
“He should also stop the rubbish he is doing at Transport. He owns the USD 43m and everyone knows it. Attempts to cover up for him will fail”.

EFCC finds $38m, £27k, N23m in a house in Gerrard Road, Ikoyi
OperATIVEs of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday, found $38 million, £27,000 and N23 million in a private residence on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The commision acted on a tip-off by yet another whistleblower. It was learned that the house, which belongs to an unnamed Abuja politician, is on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
EFCC agents, who stormed the house, early yesterday, were still counting the money at press time. EFCC spokesman in Lagos, Mr Samin Amaddin, who confirmed the discovery, said the agents, who went on the mission, were yet to return to base last night.
The Federal Government recently spelt out the benefits awaiting whistleblowers as it also pledged to protect them.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said any whistleblower whose information led to the recovery of up to N1 billion would receive five per cent of the amount.
According to him, the reward for any amount between one and five billion naira would be five per cent for the first N1 billion and four per cent of the remaining N4 billion, and that any amount over N5 billion will attract 2.5 per cent reward.
The Federal Government had said that any whistleblower, whose information led to the recovery of cash or assets worth N5 billion, would earn N210 million.
Mohammed said: “For example, if a whistleblower provides information leading to the recovery of N10 billion, he or she will receive five per cent of the first N1 billion, four per cent of the next N4 billion and 2.5 per cent of the remaining N5 billion.
“What we have done by making this information public is to reassure potential whistleblowers that the plan to reward is real.
We are not just saying we will pay all whistleblowers, but we are letting them know in advance what they are entitled to, once the information they provide leads to the recovery of looted funds.”
The latest recovery came two days after EFCC agents recovered €547,730 and £21,090 as well as N5,648,500 from a Bureau de Change operator in Balogun market, in Lagos. Last Thursday, the EFCC recovered N449, 000, 860 hidden in an abandoned shop in Lagos.

I'm not the owner of discovered billions in Lagos – Adeola
Senator representing Lagos West, Senator Solomon Adeola has denied ownership of the N15 billion recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Lagos yesterday.
In a statement signed by his media adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro and made available to newsmen on Thursday, Senator Adeola debunked the allegation published by some online media (Not infokitchen101) saying it is totally false.
“The attention of Senator Solomon Adeola (Lagos West) aka Yayi has been drawn to an online story alleging that the N15 billion in foreign and local currencies discovered by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in an apartment at Osborne Towers in Lagos belong to him.
“As published by Lagos Herald quoting “Africanreporters” the senator is alleged to have stashed the huge cash for his rumoured ambition to be a governor of a state.
“There is absolutely no iota of truth in this obvious blackmail targeted at destroying the rising profile of the senator who had spent over 14 years in public office without any blemish.
We are aware that some politicians are having sleepless nights on his impeccable records as a grassroots democrat and will do anything to eliminate him in their paranoid political equation towards 2019.
“Senator Adeola does not own any house or apartment on Osborne Towers at Osborne Road, Ikoyi and could not have been the owner of the discovered cash in the apartment.
The senator will in due course not hesitate to take legal action against anyone unjustly tarnishing his hard earned reputation and image pursuant of his fundamental rights under the constitution.
“The EFCC as a credible anti corruption organization is doing it statutory duty and I am sure it will soon come out with details of the ownership of the discovered humongous cash.
“Insinuations attributing Senate decisions on national issues to Senator Adeola shows perfect ignorance of the working of the legislature in a democracy and indeed Senator Adeola as an APC Senator is fully committed to the anti-corruption agenda of President Mohamadu Buhari and APC.”
